Electrical Problem

I unlocked my 1997 318i this morning. The power locks worked OK. I turned the key in the ignition. Dash lights briefly went on then - nothing. Lights off starter not making a sound. No noise no lights.

Now the power locks don't work. The battery measured 12.5V. Jump start did nothing - turn the key and no lights no noise.

I did not try my spare key yet but could this be a problem with the anti-theft. Does the anti-theft also prevent the power locks from unlocking if the key is bad or does that just affect the ignition?

I did not see any blown fuses.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I don't think its the battery just because the power locks and dash lights worked just before I turned the ignition key. And with the jump start the starter did not make a sound. Also no lights at all not even dim.

I checked the fuses under the hood. Will check to see if there are fuses located elsewhere. Main fuse blown?

Thanks for the input.

In that case, if no lights come on at all, it's gotta be a fuse. Call up BMW dealerships around and even ones far away. It's gotta be a fuse.

Problem is fixed. Turned out to be a loose connection. I got a ride to work after checking the fuses and thought the worst - like the anti-theft had somehow shutdown ...
Weird because I didn't lose power until I turned the key.
