hello everyone, i was thinking of finally upgrading to the european tail lights, clear turn signals and side markers for my 1997 328i.

my questions are: anyone know of a good place to purchase these? and how difficult is the installation if i decide to do it myself?

ive looked at bavauto.com and they sell the rear tailights for $234.95

this place Bekkers has an entire euro light kit for about $340

and searching on ebay i found the rear tail lights for $70 and it has this message in the description "(97-98 E36 REQUIRES REWIRING TO AVOID "CHECK BRAKE LIGHTS" WARNING MESSAGE FROM ON-BOARD COMPUTER, does not fit on convertible model)" heres the actual auction
is there any truth to this? being that i have a 97' will any new rear brake lights require rewiring or is this set just FUBAR?

thanks for your help!

Well, I ended up getting the diamond clear ones from procarparts.com. They were pretty cheap, looked real nice, and the way I looked at it, if they were crap I was not out too much money. I have a 97 328ic, these worked perfect and have never set off any check light malfunction. Only thing is they leaked so I had to use some clear RTV silicone to fix that. Since they have been siliconed, have not had a problem with them. The diamond clears look much better than the standard Euro look in my opinion. These are VERY easy to install, just plug right in. You can replace tail lights in under 5 minutes and drive away. Hope this helps and the pic gives you an idea. BE ADVISED THOUGH.....MOST AFTERMARKET TAIL LIGHTS WILL LEAK OR FOG UP.....so be prepared and as a precaution, silicone the rubber gaskets BEFORE first installing them on the car.

i went oem front and back. every once in awhile i get a tail light failure message but it goes away so i dont really care. yes it is OEM i see the bmw logo and part #s on it. i think its just my bulbs. they were bought from bekkars.

aftermarket is risky - these also have high resale value so you dont lose out on much money..
