Ever wonder about the temperature control?

Just wondering if anyone else wondered about the temperature control. Maybe I'm just ignorant and using it wrong, but the car has a digital temp control for driver and passenger, and then the middle vent (the large one above the radio) has a hot/cold dial that you roll from left (cold) to right (hot).

What's the purpose of the digital temp control and the dial together? I can put the digital temp at 90 degrees, but roll the dial all the way left (cold) and it will blow cool air out and never get to 90.

Also, is there a way to get the hot air blowing hotter? When I put my digital temp guage at say 85 and then roll the dial all the way to the right (hot), it blows warm air, but doesn't seem to be 85 or higher, feels more like 75. I don't feel my car blows out hot enough air.

I too wonder the same thing. I haven't figured it out yet either. I simply don't use the auto function anymore.

What I find strange is that in the middle of the day in September in Florida, when the car could bake a cake, I would put on the auto function and have the temp set to 67* and it would NOT blow on high, but sometimes it would. Other times when the car is getting very cold and I put it on temp 70* the blower would go high when it was well below 70* inside the car already.

In other words, it seems I always need to give manual intervention or I'll freeze or sweat to death.

The climate control works EXACTLY like your home's thermostat works. It'll blow heat until it reaches, say, 72 degree's, then back off on the heat and try to maintain 72 degree's. You're supposed to use the lower vents (at your feet) for heat, and the dash vents are used to keep your face from burning off (hence the reason they let you choose between heated air, and cool fresh air). It really does make it more comfortable.

The dash has a blower in it behind the temperature control that IS a thermostat. That is why that if you even have heater set at 62 degree's, and open your window and its 40 degree's outside, your heater will blow hot as hell even though you probably dont want it to.

Question: what if you like the hot air blowing on your face? Personally, I love that; is there anyway to get that middle vent to blow as hot air as comes through the side vents?

Hmm...I wasn't really referring to the "Auto" function, I know it works as a thermostat already, I was referring to all the manual functions. just doesn't make sense that you set it at 90degrees on the digital and you can rotate the dial wheel to cold and it will blow cool air...

And how do i get it blowing hotter air! if I have it set at 90 degrees and the dial on red, it doesn't seem as hot as other people's cars that are only set to 80 degrees... is something wrong with my car?

does your car heat up to normal operating temperature? If not, you won't get as hot heat and you probably have to replace your thermostat.

Another thing to try is to see if the little vent to your hvac thormostat is not dusty or clogged. Try to free all the gunk in there by blowing into it while the car is off (otherwise you can mess up the little fan in there. Maybe that'll help, who knows?
