fluctuating IDLE

Hi guys,

This has been a persisting problem for a long time. Im the owner of a 96 model 318is manual transmission. I have been having a problem with the idling of the car. it keep fluctuating between 0 and 800. the car switches off at times.

I also have problems with cold start at time. In the evening wen i start my car the rpm drops and car switches off. I took it to my mechanic a few weeks back. n he said the air hose had a leak, so we replaced it. car ran fine and real smooth for a few weeks after that.

Now the same problem has started again.

I would like to eliminate this problem as soon as possible. Plz advice!

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check the small hoses that run from below the bellows, I have sen them come out due to an occassional back pressure. Check also to see if the hoses are brittle and need replacing.
