I'm thinking about getting an older BMW (94-96) convertible, however, I'm not sure which model (318, 325 or a 328) to get. I thought about the 318 but I understand that the engines work really hard. Does anyone have suggestions? Are any one of these models more prone to problems than the others? Thanks

Well it really depends on what you want from the car. If all you want to do is look cool and don't mind a lack of acceleration than get the 318 or 323, but if you enjoy the kick in the pants feeling of straight six torque then get a 325 or 328. All the models have problems, and if you really want to look into it get the book BMW Buyers Guide. You can find it on Amazon.com. In my opinion the 325 is superior because it uses timing chains instead of belts, plus it has more power. You might even want to go with the more up to date 328 with the OBD II computer system.
If you have any more questions, feel free to send a private message or email me.

Thanks for the advice still haven't really made up my mind on the 318, 325 or the 328. Have about this? Generally which car is easier to work on for DIY type work?

well the 328 is a nice car if you want power but not an m and the 325 is the middle and the 318 is if you dont care they all have their problems and thats a comon bmw thing and if you want a bmw you must love it and not care how many times it goes in to the shop or what goes wrong casue its the engienering of these fine machines that matter. if you want a car that needs little care get a honda you will have less to worry about.

I think you may have missed my point. I want to do the work on the BMW, however, the eaiser it is to do the work the better.
