Three weeks ago I bought a '93 325i and have been disappointed by it's lack of steering feedback and overall feel for the road, so I was not too heartbroken when an airplane taxied into it (no bullshit) and totaled it last weekend. My question is if the earlier e30's might be more of what I'm looking for. My hope is that the e30's are lighter and geared more towards being a sports car rather than luxury/sports car. What is the general consensus among BMW enthiasts?

You are right.

I had a '87 e30 325i, much funnier to drive than my '97 328i. The e36 needs a lot of mods to be beside the e30 talking about fun.

Engine is a different matter.
