Funny thing happend on the way to lunch......

Guys,
Has anyone ever had their Heater just stop working. It was fine on the way to work this morning but when I got in the car for lunch, there were no lights on the unit......however the heater was on full blast and its 80 degrees outside. I checked the fuses but none seemed blown. Any suggestions ?[???1]

Hmm, I really don't know a whole lot about the heater system. However, I do experience the same problem you do with your lights not showing up on the climate control. I turn the fan control back and forth a few times, pretty quickly, and the lights come back on. A friend of mine had the same problem in his 95 but once he replaced his stereo head unit, his lights on the climate controls never turned off again.

Now I have a question for you, is your heater not working? Are you not able to control the heat coming into your car? In other words, does the climate control system work but the lights don't come on or does the climate control system not work, as well as the lights not coming on?

It seemed as if the climate control was stuck at the highest heat setting. Now it could have been the unseasonably warm temperature of 80 degrees but It was really hot in the car even with the windows down. A new twist has emerged, last night I got in the car and it started working. This morning it worked, stopped for coffee, it stopped then came back on. I did replace the Radio 2 months back, its worked fine up until now.

it is the control unit. the symptoms you describe are very veru similar to the ones i observed when my unit left me. the lights go off and you have absolutely no control. thenm, for no reason it jumps on again and works.
only difference is, that with my problem the blower did not work at all. it just switched off.

any way, i think you need to replace the climate control unit.

My blower didn't kick on either, but it felt as though the heat was on. My symptoms are exactly what you typed. I was affraid of it being the unit. Dealer is probably going to want an arm and a leg for it too. Thanks for the help.
