I get about 19-20 MPG, I always drive it in 3rd instead of drive and get on it sometimes. On the freeway it gets pretty good milage. Depends what type of gas you are putting in with 5 bucks and your local gas prices. Is it manual or automatic? Is your tire pressure good, can make a difference as well. When was the last time it had a tune up? 5 bucks in gas is really not that much. Again, the way you drive and stop and go traffic also has an impact, city vs hwy.

You need to tell us your mpg, or at least how much gas you are buying for $5.

If you have noticed a recent drop in mpg, you may be running too rich of an air fuel mixture and may want to get the car checked out.

dido. thats not much gas being wasted if any at all. i get about 30mpg in mine. one thing to try is fuel injection cleaner. not only does it increase the acceleration rate, but it can help with the gas mileage too. after cars get old(er) the fuel injectors get a little clogged, and dont spray as efficiently as they should, which over time and lots of fill ups can affect the mpg enough to notice.

it's like saying help! my car costs too much!! i pay $600 a month for 60 months!!

without telling us what car, what options etc..

but since you live in OH i'd imagine you are paying under $2 a gallon, so your mpg maybe under 20, you also have to consider the weather. cold weather means longer warm up times, thus less efficient engine buring more gas. thus your mpg drops in the winter months, esp if you travel short distances..

lol why would ever put $5 of gas into your car??? At any rate, one thing that we all have in common on this board is that we all have e36's, and all of the e36 BMWs have an OBC which will tell you your gas mileage... well atleast the 325s will, not sure about the 318s. anyway, I get a steady 19.9 MPG which isnt that bad considering I usually accelerate pretty hard. on the highway with the cruisecontrol set I get around 27 MPG which is great for long trips. also, this is a 1992 325i....

The OBC shows 16.5MPG. I don't think that's good enough. On a full tank, i get about 230miles. When i had my Mazda 626, i got about 310 on a full tank. The car just had a tune up. I changed the plugs to a Splitfire plugs and then the oil. I don't know what else to do. Should i consider any injector cleaner?

if you spend all your tiem driving in the city and stop and go traffic, 16.5 sounds reasonable.. and your gas tank holds only 14 gallons? 230/16.5 = 14ish..

i don't know what your driving style is, but that could be a factor also..

in the bmw manual it says the 92 325i has a 17 gallon tank. not that it matters that much, but just wondering which is right?
yes i know thats what it says, i think its a typo.

this is due to my own calculations:

i full her up. drive 217 miles, fill her up with 12.2 gallons = 17.8 mpg but that doesnt matter. i get about 225 miles full tank before im in the reserve.

the ratios should be the same

217/12.2 = 225/X

figures to about 14 galllons.

plus i fill up about 14.2 gallons from reserve light to confirm.

YMMV and all, but that seems like pretty poor mileage for a 325i. I get 25 mpg or more per tank, and fill up at 350-375 miles on average, usually around 14 gallons. I do more highway than urban driving, so that has an impact, but I still think 17-18 city is too low.

for only inner city traffic it a a little higher than what i get. but as i don´t know about driving (allthough you say not fast and furious) and weather and distances etc., it might be reasonable. My average is 19 and lower.
