Hi guys,

I have a 2001 330i with 133,000 miles. Auto 5-speed tranny. No problems until one week ago:

First (on Monday), I noticed that the engine would stumble at idle, but it drove fine.

A couple days later, it started to stumble when driving.

By Thursday, it was running really rough coming home (an 8 mile drive). I decided to take it to my friend's shop Friday morning, so he could run the codes. It didn't want to go into Reverse to back out of the garage. It gradually eased out. In Drive it seemed OK, so I drove to my friend's shop, a quarter of a mile away.

He got these codes from the car:

PO 491 - secondary air injection, insufficient flow bank 1

PO 492 - secondary air injection, insufficient flow bank 1

PO 1353 - misfire #6 cylinder, fuel cut-off

PO 1620 - from my research, I gather that this means the thermostat needs replacing.

Any and all advice appreciated. Especially insight into the tranny issue. Is it possible that the codes above are somehow messing with the tranny controls? Or, is the trans a separate problem, and is it "fixable"?

Thanks in advance!

Have your dealer check this Recall 05E-A01. From what I can find out it was for 2002 models and up, but others are reporting failures. I would push the issue with them.
