is the trim plastic? if it's plastic, go out an buy yourself some krylon fusion and sandpaper. sand it down smooth and respray it. cost you $10 and take a couple hours (give or take - cure time).

I would sand, prime and color match the gray areas all around your car to your paint color. It will give your car an updated 1996+ look and solve your problem. [thumb]

If there are any "Hobby Lobby" stores in your area, they'll have it. The thing with fusion though is it bonds to the plastic, so any sand scratches you leave behind WILL be visible. I painted my interior door handles with it and it works awesome but it wasn't totally smooth.
