I purchased my car two months ago and I'm in love with my BMW. I used to have an old 325i(86') and it was great but after I came from Iraq, I found this one I have now and just love the way it feels in the autobahn and the way it looks.
Well I'm stationed in Germany and I bougth this 92' E-36 if anyone can tell me how I can change my car American specs here in Germany please, I just have 9 months left and really want to take it with me home.

sell the car and buy one here. changing a car's saftey features to fit american standards can be quite costly. i was in japan and i wanted to bring a skyline home with me and say it followed me home but it was going to be too costly.

Quite a few years ago (over 20), I thought about bringing home a BMW 635 CSi from Germany. I didn't, but a friend of mine brought a Mercedes home. He went through a lot of time and effort to make the US conversion. His biggest headache was the emmission controls. The EPA only did this in a few locations nationwide. He was lucky, he lived in CT and went to New Jersey for the test.

Anyway, if I recall correctly, you are allowed to import one car during your lifetime without doing any US conversion. I think the car has to be at least 10 years old. Check with US Customs. I'm trying to remember something that's 20 years old now, and things may have changed.

Good luck.......... [cheers]
