Hello,

My Name is Joe. This is my first time at a Forum. Be gentle!

When I turn on my car all three lights turn 'on' at the control unit (defroster, recirc and a/c switches) at the same time and will not turn off, when I depress the individual switches. Also, it seems like the vent at eye level is not allowing air to come out. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you,Joe. [driving]

Has this problem surfaced before so someone can tell me where to look to find the answer?

I forgot to add that it's a manual climate control unit (it has the rotary dials).

Welcome to the board! Sorry, but this is a new one on me, I don't have any specific suggestions, M5runner is probably right.

Thank you m5runner and Kirby. I thought it would be that, but also I've seen some post's from other board's. However, they were for later model bimmer-it was a bad capacitor also in the Climate Control Unit. No such luck on my part. Oh well, I've made some calls to this place in San Antonio-they have one for about $125 used. Again thanks.

Hey bimmer luvers, I had the module checked out. It has a bad ic - octal ground contact monitoring circuit. I smelled smoke and looked inside and there it was. I'm going to see if anyone sells this p/n: L9703/x It's in the IHKR control unit behind the Tripometer and sunglass holder. Was very easy to pop out. However, I'm not sure if it burned up due to bad component or something else.

I did a quick search on suppliers I use - Digikey. Newark Electronics, Allied Electronics. None of them carry it. A general web search makes it seem like this is an uncommon IC. Good luck.....

I finally got the part IHKR for $80 used at A&J's right outside San Antonio, TX. I also had to replace the fuse and everything is back to normal. Thank you all for your input and help. On to the next thing - finding a headliner, tierods, ball joints, shocks, struts, etc. etc.
