I just ordered the M3 Convertible. I am aware that it isn't as fast as the coupe, but I am just wondering in general if the SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) is comperable to the 6 speed manual in performance?? Thanks!!!

I believe the SMG is faster as the gear ratios are about the same (if not the same?) and the shifting speed makes up for a REALLY little bit of time. Plus, smg has the shift lights that help you time the shifts perfectly. With manual you could shift a little too late or a little too soon.

its not so much that one is faster than the other its about driver envolvment. some people prefer it as it makes them feel like a racer some prefer it becuase its easy to use and theres no left leg numbness in this heavy crimbo traffic. the clutch on the 6 speed allows greater control and gives a VERY special driver the edge. Even then were only talking tenths or even hundredths of seconds differance (so a headlights length then!!)

I am aware on the faster gear changes.. .08 seconds for the SMG in the most aggressive mode!!! I do love driving manual, but I know other family members will want to drive this car that don't know how to drive manual. I will also not teach them on my car, LOL!!!
