More power?

Ok, so my first day with the 2005 325I. Before I even get to drive it, the wife takes it. Go figure Anyway, she comes back and says, umm, I thought it would of had a little more power. I explain, that I bought the 325I, and not the 330I, due to budgetary constraints. With that being said, what can I mod on the vehicle if I should want more power? Thanks!

Basics usually are air intake, exhaust, and a chip. Possibly headers. A little more advanced would be putting an automatic tranny gear ratio into a stick car. Otherwise, you're talking forced induction.

Seriously though, there is not much you can do other than forced induction to get a substantial amount of horsepower out of the vehicle. You can start with the basics of air intake, exhaust, and chip but then your wife may say "hey, too loud!".

Unfortunately, to beef up the 325 power, you will spend as much or more than the $$$ difference between the 325 and the 330.

Check BAVAuto.com or PelicanParts.com . Also Google "BMW 325 Cold Air Intake" . It is a DIY job. You will get 3 - 7 hp or so for a few hundred $$$.

Chip+intake+exhaust - $1k or so w/ labor (for the exhaust)
Diff change (lower gearing) - $700 or so w/ labor

We'll say 2k or so - You're into Auto 330 speeds easily.

Cams - $1500 or so

3500k or so - You're now as fast or faster than a manual 330.

Cost: 3.5k-4k. Roughly the difference from a 325 to a 330, but your 325 will be much peppier, a little lighter, and certainly out of warranty. Lots of other little things to make you 'faster' - underdrive pulleys, better plugs n cables, 102 octane...



Drop in a bolt-on SC: You're E36 M3 territory easily. Cost 7k or so after install.
