If I were to change my muffler from a single exhaust to a twin exhaust, would I need that trim rail black piece from a E36 that had a twin, or would my old one work?

I found a remus style muffler which I really like and I would love to put it on my car. Does anyone know if it will make my car sound ricey? I like the stock sound, but my muffler was damaged by that F***ing shop when they took it off to do body work (they scratched the hec out of it and it got bent a bit and it looks really ugly now; I was just going to paint it, but this muffler is only for $25! And it's stainless steel.) I would go for a stock one, but this looks really cool; I like the chrome tips alot as well, and the muffler does not look ricey; it's an (excuse the oxymoron) authentic remus knock-off.

The sound is really important to me, so if any one knows how it will sound please let me know.

Any and all comments welcome.

What?! Big daddy, did you talk to remus about it? Everyone I know with a remus loves it.

By the way, are you saying "muffler" for $25? Dude... that's not going to be real stainless steel, it's going to sound like absolute crap and its just going to be a piece of shit.

There's a reason a real remus costs $300 - $1200... It's $650 for my car!!

It does say stainless steel. I was thinking the same thing about the sound; probably would sound like a civic (no offense to anyone who has one). I'm not really looking for any real change accept aesthetics. I saw an authentic brand new remus for my car for $300. I'm assuming by your (300-1200) that it's a good deal? Here are the two mufflers I'm considering. From what I gather, it's probably better to spend the $300 for the remus?

Man, spend the extra money for the good exhaust. If you buy the knock-off exhaust you WILL BE disappointed. Trust me, go with a name brand exhaust. Do it for me, do it for you, and most importantly do it for your car. I recommend AA, B&B, Supersprint, or Borla. I do not think these company make exhaust for the 318, but i think ANSA makes one for the 318.

Does anyone have any experience with Stromung?

I really like the look, but I'm very worried about the sound. I prefer a stock sounding muffler, or at least a quiet muffler; too many A-hole cops around where I live.

I've bought a muffler from g-power. Sound.... hmm no easy to discribe...nice, more low frequences. Very high quality. It's built out of stainless steal, so there's no rust.

www.g-power.de they deliver in US too. Costs round about (750Euro) = ~ 1000USD

There is absolutely NO WAY the knock off is stainless steel.

304 Stainless - Wholesale cost, if you buy a TON, is $1 per pound, raw, unfinish . Prices are going thru the roof. (The company I work for buys thousands of dollars a month of stainless pipe and equipment.) They say it weighs 10 lbs, so $10 of stainless, plus manufacturing, labor, etc. and they sell for $21 - Yeah right....

The knock off is too sleek to be stainless. Stainless, unless paper thin, can't be stamped or formed the way that muffler is. It's WAAAYYYYY to shiny for 304 stainless, that's chrome plated steel, or they have to use a very expensive plating/polishing process for stainless. For $21, Yeah right....

LMAO! Your description is by far the most colorful, not to mention entertaining, one yet. Yeah, I think all you guys are right about the knock-off. I was just being young and naive in hoping that a good muffler could be so cheap. I guess I'm going to save some $$ and either get a remus or stromung.

Thanks for all the advice.

Sean

Comments on other brands worth considering are still appreciated.
