[:(!] - i was going to replace the air vent, with the controls to direct the air, the one right above the radio...and while i was pulling the dash apart, i figured that i might as well replace the light bulb behind the odometer that went out. I have the bulb, but I just havent had the time to take everything apart.

So I get everything unscrewed, and its time to disconnect the battery, so I can pull off the steering wheel. The instument box wont pull out without the steering wheel off, its just too big. So, like any normal person I try to open my trunk. It wont. Ok, so I locked and unlocked it, and tried again..uh uh. Tried several different combonations of locking/unlocking, key in the ingnition, car on etc. NOTHING works. The lock DOES unlock, but when I try to push the button in, it wont go in all the way. So i figured if i put some weight on the trunk, it'd have less friction on the lock...nope. didnt work. I CANNOT get it open. Please, help me.

BTW, I ordered new vents for the passenger side too. So my dash is torn apart on that side still. I also recently replaced the micro filter. Could wires have gotten loose? I dont know why this is happening. Will the trunk not open without all electrical connections in tact? I tried connecting everything that was apart, and it still didnt work.

The trunk actuator probably went out. I had the same problem. The good thing about mine was that I could open my trunk. I replaced it also due to noise. The actuator most likely stoped in that kind of position that you can't open your trunk.

You can also open your trunk manualy by inserting the key in to the chrome button on the trunk. It should work.

careful, i once stuck my key in my trunk button, and the tumblers locked onto it, i could not get the key out. i was at a cisco cram session and was super worried about having to leave my key in my trunk. needless to say the key sat in my trunk for about 8 hours, and then half the people at the session came out after and had there turn tugging at the key. eventually the tumblers just let go of the key, but it was freaking knowing the keys to my car were being advertised in the open

i bet. any other ideas??? i'd guess the actuater too, but when i lock all the doors from the drivers lock, so will the trunk, and the button goes ALL the way in. but when its unlocked, it only goes in half way.
