or this:
check the time in your car.....if there is a little horn thingy displayed after the time then its your alarm.....sounds stupid but when we bought our car three beeps would go off at about every hour....lol
From another board where the question was something about three chimes!

I'd be willing to bet $10 that your memo function is turned on. In the e30, the OBC will also beep once when the outside temp reaches 38 degrees (not sure if the e36 does that or not) - there is no way to turn that one off short of unplugging the OBC speaker under the steering column.

Just about to write this Justin. Yeah, e36 does that as well.

It scared the hec out of me when I first got my car. I read the manual like crazy trying to figure out why it was beeping at me.

Read over your manual...I know, I know it's a novel; but you'll be glad you did.

i know what the memo button is its not it ok? no attitude. thanks.
it could be the temp sensor though because it is in the garage when it is started and the garage is in Washington so maybe.

e36 coupe door switches are pieces of shit. even if the window does slide up, it can still beep as if the door is open. i'm pretty sure mine does this only when i turn the car off.... its the seatbelt that chimes when i start my car. they are the exact same chime coming from the exact same place as the memo chime, the ice warning chime.

door switch might go when the car is started as well, just a thought

3 Beeps...

OK - i drive a 1993 325i and I LOVE MY CAR - but - two days ago i get in the car and begin driving when i hear 3 beeps coming from the dash board. The check engine light is now on and every time I get in the car - it beeps three times. WHAT IS THIS?? I called the car's mechanic and he tells me he has never heard of a BMW beeping from the dash. I call the local BMW dealer - they tell me that BMW's "do not beep" from the dash. IS MY CAR GOING TO EXPLODE?
Please help me

I would get a new dealer and mechanic as all the psots above suggest, in some instances BMW's do beep. I do not know what to tell you other than to try some of the solutions posted.

BMW has a specific service bulletin out on the 2003 325i if I remember correctly where the car beeped in reverse for no good reason... That means BMWs do beep from the dash, the E46 beeps if you leave the key in the ignition when you shut off the car and open the door, as well as when the temperature dips below 37 degrees.

Although I would take it in for the check engine light to a reputable mechanic...

I'll post pic once my drivers side fog lamp replaced, ran over some debris from a debris truck after the storm - really tore my poor car up underneath and a/c fan in tatters. Dangerous living in Mississippi these days.
Now back to the beeping thing - I've pushed the memo button and will let you know if this cures her ailment. It is a different beep then when the door is ajar or the lights are left on. What is the significance of the beep at 37 degrees? Anybody know?
