Ok I just purchased my first BMW when I graduated from college it is a 1995 325is I got the car for relatively cheap or so I think I know nothing about BMWs but would like to know all I can and the first thing I have to do is change the oil I am very familiar with oil changes but never on a high end vehicle the oil I intend to use will be Mobile 1 synthetic but I am not sure on what weight of oil like 5w/20 or what should I run I live in Illinois and heard some go by what climate that you live in but am not for sure and I am pretty sure the oil filter is on top that is just from what little investigating I have done and I would like to know how to reset the counter in the dash that is in the yellow back to green again with out buying a reset tool because I have to make the payments before I can buy cool tools for it any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

[thumb] Welcome to the forum Johnnyo, I been an owner since 1999. Currently, my bimmer car dude uses BMW synthetic motor oil and filters, however if I had time to do my own oil changes I would use Mobil 1. Mobil 1's label should alert you to the temperature constraints for oil in your region as far as which viscosities to use based upon weather and climate. I have no clue how the reset can be accomplished without a reset tool so I can't speak to that issue. I have my synthetic oil changed every 7,500 - 10,000 miles. I believe BMW suggests that you can wait as long as 15,000 between oil changes, I just am not comfortable with that interval. Just my two and a half cents worth, post some pictures, join a local BMWCCA and Happy Motoring...

Welcome and congrats!

You should be good with Mobil 1 5/30. Change it every 5K - 7.5K miles or so. Like ZChild said, BMW says 15K on newer cars, but that's too long by most standards.
