HI! new to this forum - So hi everyone! ive got a 92 318is coupe. got a couple of probs.

1st is fuel consumption... its rubbish but ive looked at other threads for like the past 2 hours so poss dirty air filter.

2nd is fuel smell in car - fuel sender thingie under rear seats (found on another thread)

but 3rd which i cant find yet is my rpm meter. the engine sounds fine ( i think ) but only goes to just over 4000 rpm.... the meter red lines just over 6 i think.

i love this car but im a poor student in the UK and fuel n parts is like soooo expencive.

if u have any ideas for any of my problems, you will make my day!

thanks
Chaz

The fuel consumption problem could also be down to a faulty thermostat (in fact, I'd almost bet my bollocks on it!). Watch your temperature gauge and see if it stays in the cold.

Fuel smell in the car isn't good...I'd guess maybe your fuel pump is leaking (which could also explain bad fuel consump).

E30 gauges are notorious for working improperly, usually due to dodgy connections on the SI board behind the gauges themselves. Try giving your dashboard a little love tap to see if this jigs the rev-counter into action. Quite often, this method works. And you're right, the 318is redlines at 6,500 RPM.

Hope this helps. I know BMW parts are expensive but you really do need to keep them regularly maintained otherwise they end up costing you even more in the long run - I've seen it happen!

Good luck.
