i was recently in an accident and did not have my car for 2 months....i remember the check engine light coming on, and doing the self test, and i got the code for the o2 sensor......well i get my car back, and the check engine light is not on anymore, i asked the repair shop if they replaced it, they said no....what might cause the light 2 go off....do i still need 2 replace the sensor? we asked the repair shop and they gave a very indirect answer as if they dont know what they are talkin about lol.....anyways, thanx

Sometimes a faulty O2 sensor can work at one point, then now switch fast enough and cause a check engine light. The same faulty O2 sensor might be still malfunctioning yet it throws no check engine light.

That or also when the work was being done on your car, they most likely diconnected the battery. In some cases diconnecting the battery will reset lights. It has done it on my car before. What will most likely happen is your check engine light will come back on in a short period of time, I would say after you have drivin the car for roughly 10-15miles. I have bad precat sensors, and I have the peake r5 reset tool, and whenever i turn off the light it comes back on after I drive about 10-15miles. Have you drivin the car at all since it has been worked on? Cuz if you have just started the car than the light will not come on untill the car has been drivin, because 02 sensors work on timed pattern..........I can't explain it, but your car will scan everything and it will do it in sequence, and when it gets to the o2 sensor after it has warmed up and is giving readings than it will most likely report back a bad sensor. It just takes the sequence a little time to scan and re-scan cuz it does it the whole time the car is on. It just than when you are driving it accelerates the use of the o2 sensor, and gives better readings, not when the car just sits and idle's. Hope this helped some.
