on board computer

i have a 98 bmw 318i [:I] . would a on-board computer from a 328i also work with my car. i mean, would i be able to just unplug the old and plug the new one in? [8]

probably not, seeing is theyre completely different cars, with completely different engines, but i dunno

no, not my ecu.
but isn't the only diff. between the two(on board computers) the fact that the one that comes with a lot more options (speed, dist, consum...) then the one in the 318i

neither the ECU or the OBC will work from the 328i on your car. The OBC (inside trip computer in your dash) has two plugs on the back of it an wont plug up to were yours is now seeing as you only have one plug behind the dash. it will fit in the slot but wont work. the ECU ( under the hood brains of the car) will for sure not work on your car. but the OBC has nothing to do with how many cylinders your car has. it is more of a trip computer then anything else

quick question fellas....my OBC seems to be on the blink...sometimes when i'm looking at the clock i'll notice that a part of the number(the time) is missing....for example my 3 looks a little like ]..missing either the middle part or the top part....and when i hit the check button the phrase that shows up looks a little like chinese[80?] ....can anybody help....do i need a new OBC... how much would it cost...
