Original Warranty cover Inspection I?

Does the original warranty on most BMWs (the 3yr or 36,000 miles) take care of the costs of the first inspection as well?

I was under the impression that oil changes + inspection #1 was extra and not covered.

I'm in final phase of purchasing a 2000 323ci next week from a private individual and I've been told the warranty does transfer by local BMW dealer.

The car is near the end of the road on the warranty in December this year (also has about 31k miles) and I have about 900 miles left until Inspection 1 comes up according to the vehicle.

my question to you guys is ->

Does the original warranty PAY for the inspection I?

I thought on the older BMWs that the original warranty was for 4 yrs/50,000 miles and the service warranty was for 3 yrs/36,000. So, oil changes and all that are covered if the service warranty hasn't expired yet.

Hmm I might be confused then and have the service warranty mixed up with the original warranty then.

Should I be able to just call up my local BMW dealer with the VIN number on this particular 323 and be able to tell just what warranty is left on this particular car? (I believe it was originally purchased from this same local dealer)

Also anyone know if the service warranty is transferable if originally purchased?

I believe they're transferrable. Call the dealer up and give them the VIN. The computer should tell them if the service warranty has expired yet cuz you're really close.

As a Porsche owner, I'm thrilled with the "Full Maintenance as Standard" feature on the M3 I have on order (it seems like forever). The Porsche dealers are a total rip-off when it comes to simple oil changes and "inspections." Go to any Porsche forum and look at the number of complaints regarding service prices at dealerships.

Bingo. I own a 2001 X5 and the warranty is as described by codex.

To clarify, there are two separate warranties, 3/36 full maintenance and 4/50 everything else.

So, the 2000 323i service warranty has expired. But may have vehicle warranty left if under 50K or less than 4 yrs since delivered.

Inspection I and II are not covered under vehicle warranty. Try to find a reputable local shop to do your Inspection I and II service as you will likely get better work and avoid stealership prices.

Check with your local BMWCCA chapter for reputable shops in your area.

They aren't covered by the warranty, but, unless I misunderstand, they are covered by the "full maintenance" feature. (I have an M3 on order, but have never owned a BMW, so I'm not really sure.)

No, the Full Service Maintenance is what covers oil changes and the Inspection I.
Yup Tripulldee is correct. You only have to worry about paying for Inspection II.

I beg to differ with you bro. All maintenance is covered for 3/36 in Bigworms case. For 4/50 in 2002 and newer. Inspection I or II, both are covered. All maintenance is covered.

Will someone else confirm this please?
