Outside door handle trim

I recently had my 1992 BMW 325is painted over. The outside door handle trim does not want to stay on. I even went as far to purchasing new door handle trims and those wouldn't stay on either.
Did anyone happen to have this problem and does anyone have any sugesstions.

i changed mine but i applied a small amount of glue to the "tabs" that are supposed to hold it on. i did this ~6 months ago...

Thanks.....did you use any special type glue??

well i used some glue that autozone sells, cant remember the name right now. but its gasoline/oil resistant.
