Post says most of the problem. I tried using the key in the pass. side door and the rest of the doors lock and unlock, but the remote doesn't do it!
Any ideas would be appreciated! ('95 318I)

Yea, I kinda have the same problem. The remote won't lock or unlock the doors or arm the alarm. I have to lock/unlock everything with the key, trunk included. Also, at the same time i noticed this, my windows won't roll down. Can anyone help?[?|] I have a 92 325i...if that helps.

Try reprogramming the remote and see if that helps, hope the problems are not solonoid related or window motors. I have instructions for programming late model E36 remotes. Bought one off Ebay for 25 bucks and programmed it. My OEM remote did not work all the time. Try changing the battery. Just trying the simple things first. Let us know how it goes. [thumb]

Well...my dad and i just found that it was a blown fuse. He was checking on it as i typed my last reply [:o)] . But, we also found that the circuit the fuse was on, has a short. Where would be a good place to have the short located and fixed?

The newer E46 key remotes will not work with the E36, nor will the key be cut....matter of fact, I just spent 50 bucks for a master key on my 97 E36......now, I have heard that you can program the remote built into the key, but the key will never fit. BMW has transponders....the later model E36 that has to be ordered by a dealer. No locksmith can make you a key for the later E36. Just my experience. My key took 2 days to be made, ordered from BMW via email. Sent in a digi pic of the registration and my ID. Closest BMW dealer is about 1hr away from my Air Force Base. The dealer treated me well though, they are sending the key to me. Bummer it is just a flat black transponder key...they are set to the vin number. Believe it or not, some of the new car trasnponder keys are sent from Europe for replacements, and can cost over 300 bucks for a KEY!!!! OUCH!!!![:0]

I see one problem about BMW mailing out their keys by mail. Imagine if it is the mail man's last day and he is delivering your key. Mailman: Hmm I wonder what is inside this envelope that feels like a car key, wonder what car it fits? Maybe it's a BMW since the envelope says BMW on it and I see a really nice 97 328 convert sitting outside the guy's house. Maybe I should open the envelope and steal the bimmer?
It may not be the case for you because of the Air Force Base, but if you think about it a lot of bad things can happen if the mailman is dumb enough to open the envelope and do what his greedy (spelling?) brain part says.

Re-reading my post I left out something.
I can use the remote to lock ALL doors EXCEPT pass. front, remote will unlock all but same. I really think the problem is in the door-not the remote.
Any ideas would really be appreciated-I hate to bring it in for a simple thing someone here might have a thought on.

Could be the solinoid actuator that is bad also. Just another thing to check on the door. Would have to take of the door panel and get a volt meter to check to see if the part is damaged. I don't think it is a fuse as they are on the same fuse for the locks.

It seems that you know a lot about the lock/unlock system, would you be able to help me? I don't have an alarm installed so it's not with the remote, but here it goes. When I open the driver's door with a key, it opens just fine but all the rest of the doors stay double locked, then I get in, shut the door, and as soon as I turn the key in the ignition, all the doors unluck completely. When I want to get out, I have to lock the passenger's door from the inside (locks all the doors), then unlock the driver's door, get out and lock the driver's door with a key at which point all the doors double lock. I tried locking the passengers door when it's open (so it doesn't lock the other doors), closing it in the locked position and then locking the driver's door with the key, every door locks and double loocks. Any ideas at all are appreciated. Thanks.
