I have a couple of bad cracks on my '96 328i. Anything I should be aware of before doing this, or can I just call the local reputable window replacement guys and let them take care of it all?

Thanks,

now is the time if you ever wanted to install a fancy smancy rear view mirror? some newer cars of different makes have some crazy mirrors that you could swap in, might need to run a power wire. i had my windshield done a while back, the rear view fell off within 6 months so i had to glue it back on myself. no big deal though.

I had mine done and if I remember correctly, it only cost me about $250, so its not terribly expensive. One thing you do have to rememeber is that you can't drive the car on the highway for a few days after you get it done, they reccomend just leaving the car sit without movemenet until the glue settles in, so do know that you will be without that car for a couple of days.

Why are you not allowed on the highway when you have the rear window replaced and are when you get the windshiled replaced? Wouldn't having the windows open have a negative effect on the glue setting when you have the rear window replaced? Sorry for the probably dumb questions but what you said didn't make much sense to me.

front windscreen if u replace that u can drive the car within an hour

rear window u can driver after an hour but u have to drive with the windows up as the force of the wind coming in the car always hits the rear window which might mover or even blow out the window at speeds

sorry i dont make sence much , i know lol my bad [wiggle]

It was actually my fault, I thought you meant that you have to drive with the windows down, thats what didn't make sense to me. The guys that replaced mine said I shouldn't drive on the highway or take hard corners because of possible frame movement and the glue would not stick very well if it pretty much gets ripped away from its bonding surface constantly. Eh, who knows, I followed their directions and it didn't inconvinience me and right now I don't really care about it because I don't need the windshield replaced.
