Seatbelt height adjustment

Does anybody know if the front seatbelt height is adjustable at their anchors on the door pillars? I tried to adjust them out of curiosity (although I never needed to) and they slide up and down but somehow doesn't seem to be able to lock or catch at various positions. Are they just supposed to slide freely, in which case, I think they are too tight for that purpose.

I checked the manual but it's not mentioned anywhere.

they adjust with the seat height, as u move the seat up and down they move as well

Gee...I never knew that! Did they have this feature on the E34's? I have never had to adjust the height of the belts, so I never tried to adjust them, after all these years!

Still...what if a tall person needs to adjust the belt higher or a short person, lower? That has nothing to do with the seat height.
