Serious vibration coming from underneat of the rear and middle of the car.

My car is rattling like crazy in the middle and the rear. it's being going on for a while now. I have no idea what that is. It rattles when i assalarate (or however you spell it.)
I can't stand it anymore. any idea what it is?

most likely your heat shield. mine used to do the same thing, except mine did it when i was idling....which sucked, cause you'd stop at a corner or something, and your nice bmw was rattling like a beater!

i'm good friends with the guy who does my oil changes, so i took it in on a dead night and we went underneath and used some big ass washers and got it all fixed up.

doesn't do it anymore.

mine had just rusted away where it was bolted on....nothing major, just a couple of over sized washers did the trick.

just follow the exhaust from the engine back....give things a grab and shake and you'll find the rattle quick.

guys, this thing sounds like a grinding/rattleing noise. I almost vibrates the car when it's happening. I can feel the vibration especially by the handbrake section. However, it vibrates/rattles the whole car when i assalatrate, or when i make a right turn and then assalartates. So is there a plate underneat the car or what that is not ok.

acutally, i've heard of the "flywheel" and "clutch disk" my car is an automatic mind you. PLEASE HELP!! [?|] [???1]

Did you get underneath and look at it?? That would be a great place to start!!

Look at the mounts for the rear end - are the bushings shot? Also look at the mounts where the plates are attached to the car. I have heard of some E36 that were pushed hard and the mounts actually have craked the floor pan. M3s have reinforced mounting plates to prevent this problem.

this sounds extremely familiar to a problem i had a little while ago. especially the part about the hand brake. do this..... remove one of your rear lug nuts. see if there is any kind of rubbing or grinding on the end of the nut. my lugs for some odd reason started to rub against parts of my ebrake. there should be a little bit of black residue on the end of it. i ended up getting shorter lugs from a tuner shop. now it's gone. good luck man!!!

you should also check your "guibo" A.K.A flex-disc. a guibo failure will give you a pretty violent vibration right under the shifter and handbrake.
I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Could also be the center support bearing which would also make the noise.
