So I've had my car back from the shop for about a month now. I don't know if any of you remember the nonsense that I went through dealing with the repair shop that I took my car to BY THE RECOMMENDATION of my BMW dealer. AND BTW THE SHOP DID A HORRIBLE JOB. Never take your car to CARSTAR COLLISION CENTER. EVER!!!!!!!!!!

So I've been noticing that my driver's side door is really loose; I always knew some of those white clips needed replacing, but lately the door panel would throw itself forward when I would shut the door, and the two clips under the door handle would keep coming loose. THe other day those clips were so loose that I took it off to put it back on and I noticed that the screws behind the clips weren't even screwed in!! I was appalled that the shop didn't even do that straight. ...wait, it gets worse....

So I get a flat tire the other day and I go to remove the clip on the side of my car so I can use the jack. THE MFer didn't even remove the cap when he repainted the side molding the color he was supposed to. I tried and I tried, but I could not get that clip off. ...that's not the end....

Ok, now this next thing might be in my head, but if anyone can give me feedback I'd appreciate it. Have you ever made a turn and held your hand in one place and felt the steering wheel pass through your hand as it returns? Well, I did that the other day and I noticed the steering wheel was no longer a perfect circle!!! The top part of the circle has been pushed closer to the driver. Now, I don't know if it's supposed to be like this, or they messed it up (or even how they could mess that up). Is that top part supposed to be more forward than the rest?

I really feel like selling my car; I cannot stand finding these imperfections that are no cause of mine. It's really destroying my affection for my car. Oh, and I recently noticed they never replaced that black trim piece that goes under the bumper (were the muffler is); they put the old one back on and charged the insurance company for a new one. How special.

dang dude, that freaking sucks.

i dont' know, if i was having issues like that and had the time i'd probably find a new e36 (maybe a 325 or 328 in your case ;)

but it still totally sucks ass to have to go through all that crap only to sell the car.

If you want to get nasty with them, take it back and get 'em to fix it right. If they give you crap, tell them you will go to the insurance company and report fraud, since they charged the insurance company for parts that were not installed.

He'll tell me to F.O.; there is no way I can prove that he put my old parts back on. I know he did cause there is a tiny, practically unnoticeable, scratch on that piece that I did when I first got the car. (you'd have to know it's there to look for it. And the guy never admits fault or anything; he's a jerk (in every sense of the word). And he isn't stupid; he's covered his ass pretty well; the most obvious stuff looks good and is new, but the stuff that you would only look at by chance (or stuff underneath other stuff) is all messy.

I'm really interested to know about the steering wheel thing. That really bothers me. If it's not supposed to be like that, I'll try and bend it back. I can't let the steeringwheel go back on it's own without my hand getting hit pretty bad from the steering wheel.

If I sell it, how much do you guys think I'd get for it? It really is in excellent shape, except for this crap. And I would have to go for '97 528i 5spd, if I got rid of this.

dude, if you even mention fraud to your insurance company, the boxing gloves come off on the insurances' part. they employ more lawyers for this specific reson, than most other needs for a lawyer. you dont pay a dime, your insurance company wants their money back, and you can only benefit from it...it's a lawsuit between your insurance company and the shop....and i garuntee you the insurance will win if they charged for parts that arent on your car....they have reciepts, and your car's condition now is proof/evidence.

your car will get fixed, the shop will lose a lot of money, and your insurance will thank you.

It's not my insurance company; and the insurance company wasn't particularly helpful either. But still, the thought of those two going at it at no expense to me, does sound vindictively awesome....I'm going to have to investigate. Thanks!

oh, and I probably should have said this; I refuse to take my car back to that shop; even if they told me that they would fix it properly for free, I would not take it to them. I hate the guy's arrogance as well as the way he treated me; I would have tolerated (and did) tolerated the insults and inferences if he would do a good job; apparently I got neither.

To answer your question - No, the steering wheel should not be bent like that.

Thanks. Thought so. And there are two scratches on my leather steering wheel which are probably where the impact from.

Any suggestions how to bend it back?
