Had them for about 3 months....I really like them, they work real well over stock.....not cheap blue look...nice WHITE. Now, just to change the bulbs out on my driving lamps that are yellow glare in comparison. Any other people have SIlverStars on there BMW? How are they holding up for you? I drive to work in the dark...so they were a MAJOR improvement over stock...[thumb]

Carcus,
Thanks for the $.02 update. I'll have to get some. Stock lights always were really good but
got a Audi this summer with xenons which are great but they make me want something more from my convertible. Don't want to spend over a grand for lights...

Trust me my friend....you will love these, easy install, plug and play. They have no BLUE tint, just nice bright white. Now, to replace the driving lamps. You will really enjoy them. I do not drive much at light so need no high dollar HID upgrade. Lots of people will spend almost a grand for HID lights, and do not do much night driving. Yes they do look pretty, yes, they are better than stock.....not the high dollar better unless you do alot of night driving. Just my 2 cents. Again, some people have big pocket books...if I had one, would own a E46 convert instead of a E36 convert....[;)]

I'm sportin' Sylvania 'Cool Blue' headlight bulbs... Same idea, NO BLUE, NO YELLOW, just white. It's the best! [thumb]
I had the Cool Blue, they are not as bright, had them on my Camaro as the stock lights sucked. Thought of PIAA....but not as great for the price as the SIlverStar. So far, these are the best I have tried. I really just bought them as an impulse buy at the counter. Glad I did.[;)]

I'm also sportin the cool blues. I did the 9005-9006 conversion. The 9005 bulbs have more lumens - 1700 compared to 1000. Thus, if you put them in your low beam socket - you will get more light. You just have to slightly modify the 9005 bulb, cut off some plastic pieces and it'll fit beautifully. difference is really there - i feel like I can see crap when I'm driving my mom's camry with stock lights.

Sounds pretty cool, does anyone ever flash you though? If they don't, I might give it a try.

Nopes - no one ever flashes me. Just make sure your headlights are aligned correctly and you wont get any problems. The low beam sockets aim the headlights correctly, just because they are modified high beam bulbs doesnt mean they'll be aimed like high beams. They just put out more light.

So (just thinking out loud here) is there any reason why I couldn't buy high beam bulbs at probably half the cost?
Do you need to "cob up" the Sylvania to fit?

I'm interested in the silverstars!!!!
Any feedback would be appreciated, not interested in fudging in a pair of bulbs with a kitchen knife.
-Mel
Not in need of a blue glow either.

HID Conversion

I would have to say the HID conversion is definitely worth it for the E36. I bought the ZKW ellipsoid headlamps and a Polarian 5000k kit. WOW. It made a huge difference. Plus the new headlamps really clean up the front of the car. The stock headlamps get yellow and foggy because they are plastic. The ZKWs are made of glass and have eyes in the lowbeams like the e46. Also the highbeams have of course highbeam and then another bulb which is the daytime running light. Looks very cool.

Trust me even with the lights off it looks fantastic.

If you are thinking about upgrading the lights, go for the conversion, you will definitelly not regret it.

www.supremepower.com has great kits at a great price. I will send pictures soon

fog lamps

I also got some hyperwhite halogen bulbs for the fog lights. Looks good. But what the hell is up with taking those things off. I broke one and then glued it back in and the other came off after a while but now I can't take it off again.

Has anyone else had trouble taking the foglights out? Please tell me yes because I am usually good with that kind of stuff.

E36 foglights suck

Do you think they're worth $40.00 a pair? The next step up from standard halogen is half that!

Well, personally, I thinks they are, you can find them on sale if you look around....plus my military discount helped me out also. Even without the discount.....I am real happy with them. Again, this is just my opinion. It is not a major get it now item, just find a store that sells them and get a set when they go on sale if you got the money. I kinda got them as an impulse buy.....you know how that goes. Still kept my stock ones as backup if something burns out. Always good to have backup bulbs. My BMW seems to like going through tail lights alot. Hate that check light warning. Most was due to buying cheap Ebay tail lights that leaked like a beeoottccchhh!!!! Never doing that again.[:(!]

Glad you got them....you will be REAL happy with them, next is replacing my driving lights. How much did you pay for them. Hopefully you got them on sale. Most of the time 30 bucks for a set. I would not bother with the high lights as most people never use them. They are real clean white....no cheap blue tint like some of the imports have. Some of the cheap blue tinted bulbs are DANGEROUS!!!! I learned that about 5 years ago when the blue tint bulbs came out....the cheap ones SUCKED!!!! [:(!]
