the 3 liters common rail with 194 hp s is a perfect engine for the x3 but i dont know its availible
in us

is somebody of you drives the 740d (v8 common rail diesel bi turbo and 240 hp 600nm)
when you drive this dieselmonster you never by a normaly v8 and he needs 10 liters at 100
km !!!

Hi Lamosa! Thank you very much for this information. I hope you continue to post information here about your experiences and impressions of the BMW X3. It seems MAGNA STEYR is sufficiently experienced and fully capable to build this car.

Do you know if the BMW folks or the MAGNA STEYR folks are aware of the concern raised by some American Automobile Magazine Reviews of the X3 in which they state the ride is much too firm with the Sport Package option?

By the way, they are not offering the Diesel Motor option here in the US.

Thanks,

MJM

Welcome to the forum, lamosa. [:)]
Unfortunately, in the US we only get two gasoline motors for the X3. We get the 2.5 liter 184hp I6 and the 3.0 liter 225hp I6. The US doesn't use diesel motors in the US nearly as much as in other countries, I guess due to cheaper gas prices here in the US, but supposedly the whole auto industry is going to start bringing more diesel motor vehicles to the US pretty soon.

hi all

hi now i am back from amsterdam
i understand that you dont want drive diesel`s i explane you:

one liter gas (95 octane) 09,10 euro
thats 0,264 gallons

one euro is 1,2823 dollars (10.01.2004)

so for ten dollars you get 2,95 gallions

when you pay this price for 3 gal. you drive also an 530d or an 325tds and no v8 gas![:(]

NO WAR FOR OIL !!!!

It's not that we don't want diesels here in the US, our fuel has far too much sulfur for the engines to meet emissions standards.....

When low-sulfur diesel fuel is rolled out in a few more years then we will be able to take advantage of the better mileage and torque you folks have now.

Just a matter of time.
