traffic tickets and car insurance -- anyone know?

ack, well thanks.. some jerk motorcycle cop wrote me up for riding in the carpool lane for about 500ft..it was right at the end of it so i decided to pull out and use that lane since it was ending :-\ maybe the judge will be a little more reasonable. You or anyone else know how much insurance goes up from a traffic violation?

didnt know that but thanks! Only problem is I can't do traffic school for it cause I did it for a speeding ticket within the last 18 months.. :( just hope i get a really nice judge, maybe he drives a bmw! [:D]

Carpool lane violation in CA doesn't have any points so you don't have to/can't do traffic school for it. It's just a $281 fine (might be more now). Most insurance companies won't raise rates for it, however, I have heard that some count it against you anyways even tho there's no point for it.

Might be higher. I used to work as a DA handling traffic tickets. When I left, they were in the process of converting the computer system to handle the new higher fine amounts. I think the $281 tickets were supposed to be like $350 or something like that. Really expensive tickets, especially comparing to the fine amounts that killer former South Dakota governor got. I think some of his speeding tickets were like $10. I still can't believe that guy can have his record erased if he completes probation without a problem.

Do you all not have deferred adjudication for traffic violations? We get to use that every 90 days, as long as you do not get a ticket from any source during that 90 days, you're fine, you pay fine with court costs but nothing on your record.......we dont have the point system.....

Wow, that's sweet. I wish that would happen here. I don't mind the fines too much. I mean, hey, if I broke a traffic rule, I should pay some fine. Most people are actually worried about the point and the subsequent rise in insurance premiums, not the actual fine itself.

Still, I guess I still want the point system. After all, I don't want some nut who has a bunch of tickets to his credit on the road with me. More than likely he's a bad driver. If they extended that deferred adjudication to once every year, that'd be a good compromise I think. That way, a person who rarely gets tickets but just happened to get caught this time wouldn't be penalized so badly (and could use the traffic school option as well for a later ticket).
