The following might help others.
After replacing the AT Oil cooler, and changing the transmission fluid,
the transmission wouldn't engage for a second for the following scenarios:
- brake hard and then try to accelerate (ie., giving gas)
- put it in reverse and drive a little bit and then change to forward
the transmission wouldn't engage for a second, and then all of a sudden
BOOM (like someone hit you in the rear).
I fixed the problem.
The source of the problem is that I didn't have enough transmission fluid.
I was checking the fluid level (after turning off the engine) wrong.
Then after reading some articles on-line, I learned that I am supposed
to check the fluid while engine is on and transmission in neutral.
What was happening is that as soon as I turn the engine off, the transmission fluid drops in to the pan and when I open the refill plug, it would seem like the pan is full. As soon as the engine is started, some of the fluid from the pan is sucked back in to the converter and transmission. I was able to put in one more quart of fluid while the engine running in neutral.
Hope this might help others.....
