I'm going to buy a chip soon but I don't know who's I should get. I've noticed three of the big ones. Turner Motorsport sells chips programmed by Jim Conforti, Dinan or course sells theres, and ActiveAutwerkes sells a chip (which I never noticed) and I'm not sure how good it is. Anybody know how good this chip is?

personally i have the turner chip. i couldn't be happier!!! the power is definitely felt. to be honest though, i probably would have gone with the aa chip simply because they show the power increases in many different dyno graphs with proven power. i also think that aa makes the best performance equipment period. they're the only co. that can make all performance upgrades in house without buying and selling other companies' equipment. the only down side to purchasing from aa is that you have to send in your ecu. this in itself sucks!!! you'd be without your car for atleast 6 days!!! just some opinions and advice...

yep, they sure are. by the way big earl, i've already asked if the chips could be specifically programed in conjunction with cams. they said that they couldn't do that. but they also said that the chip would be fine with the cams. just thought i should share.

Nobody can specially program chips for anyone. Well maybe Jim Conforti can program them for himself but specially programmed chips "just for you" don't exist. Turner Motorsports does sell a chip, specifically pre-programmed for M3 cams. I've already researched it, and thank for your input.

actually... to get one programmed for you... you will need to take your car to auto Authority in VA... leave the car there... and they CAN custom tune on the dyno for your car... it'l cost ya

Yep, I remember with my LS1, they could dyno tune and custom program a chip for your mods, a larger cam, MAF, exhaust, gears, or adding a SC or turbo. If I remember it was around $600 bucks. This was for a different vehicle, but custom tuning is done on a regular basis for cars. Most people who do the tuning will lock the programming while doing it. Some require the ECM or computer to be shipped into them with a list of mods. This is why people buy extra computers off Ebay, one for custom tuning, one to return to stock if there is a problem.[;)]

wow, I never realized it was so popular. Does anyone know if you can learn to do this stuff yourself. I can imagine it's quite easy, I'm going to school for electronics engineering and I know assembly code. I can't imagine BMW made it that difficult to alter their code.

yes u'd have to understand the code u're modifying though...the ignition timing and fuel/air ratio...u'd have to have a solid background in physics and know a good deal about combustion engines...and have lots of time on your hands.

one guy does it succesfully, mark d'syva @ http://www.dsylva-tech.ca/ i'm getting his chip for my car eventually.
