Anyone know what the turning radius is on the E39? I believe they have a tighter radius then some front wheel drive compact cars but want to know for sure. I have looked around but can't find the information.

TIA

Plus, in general, German cars tend to have a much tighter turning radius than, say, American cars. Some of the places that these cars need to be able to maneuver through in the narrow streets in the old towns of Germany are unbelievable.

The lack of CV joints in the front definitely is a part of it, however - my '67 Camaro has an unbelievably tight turning radius for the type of car that it is (it's actually not much wider than my '87 BMW's radius).

I believe the 3-Series is even better, with something like a 34 or 35 foot turning radius...my Jetta had a number similar to that and I remember being able to make U-turns where I should have been doing K-turns!!

Hey Thanks for the info [thumb]

To give you some perspective:

Honda Civic EX = 35.4
Mazda Rx-8 = 34.8
Mazda Miata = 30.2

I have the Civic and for it size, I would have thought it would a smaller radius...just two less feet than the E39 540i.

Smaller cars are easier to manuever in tight places anyways, so they don't exactly need a superb turning radius (already have the size advantage as I mentioned before). Not to mention that the turning radius on paper does not necessarily represent how the car truly "feels" when making those tight turns, such as K-Turns, maneuvering through a tight parking lot, etc.

Lol, true. Have you noticed that your posts are usually consist of only about three short lines of text? It's as if you're always trying to follow the same format or something. [:p]
