heya all,

i am in the market for an e36 (currently have an e30)

I am trying to decide between a 325i 328i 328is (around '94-96)

would anyone have or know where to get the engine/suspension specs?

or if you may know them please let me know :)

Thanks

here we are friend.

the 2.5 has 184bhp (i think, it might have had more) and thats all i know

the 2.8 has 190bhp (97-99 had 193bhp) and 207lb-ft torque.

The 325i made 189 hp/181 ft. lbs/tq. 1992 cars are non-vanos, 1993-94 are single vanos, 1995 is double vanos. (Vanos being variable valve timing, a la V-tech, on the intake and/or exhaust cams). Suspension is basically the same for all, with sport package cars getting a better set up and larger wheels. 1992s have gray bumpers, 1993-94 half body color/gray and 1995-on all body color.

The 328i didn't change much, although there may have been a different rear axle ratio for the 1996 cars, but I can't seem to confirm that.

A 328i would be the quickest.

If you are choosing between two specific models, let me know, as I have all of the specs for changes from one model year to the next (3-series Enthusiast's Companion from Bentley Publishing simply rules!), but neither the time nor desire to copy them for all years into this post.

No such thing as a 1995 328i. 1996 was the first year.

A 328is shouldn't cost more than a comparable 328i.

How much do you have to spend? 328s seem to range from 7-17k, with most falling in the 11-14k range.

If you are at the upper end of that range, consider the 1995 M3. You could find a decent one for $15k.

D oh! i did not know that (about 96 being first year) that actually makes sence, i look on autotrader, good ones there, but no 95's Now i know why :)

I am looking to spend up to 15k I have found quite a few good ones on autotrader.com and roadfly BMW classifieds actually have seen some e36s (325i and 328is) around 60-65k miles for @ 13k-14k so thats not too bad :)

Oh yeah, been looking at e36 M3s and e34 M5s (too expencive or too many miles for the M5 around my price range) ive seen them for @ 14-17k but the lower the price the more miles :(

there was this 318ti that some one swapped an 95 M3 engine into (other stuff also) was only going for @ 13k, light car with a powerful engine, but i think i will stick with e36s (or e34s)

it has to be a stick, but most for sale seem to be auto

Thanks again!

p.s. Check it out :)

You are wise to avoid a cheap E34 M5. Not a car you want to have problems with. A bad engine will ruin your year.

I recall that M-ti as well. Quite a little monster.

I wouldn't worry about miles on an E36. As long as it has been well cared for and checks out mechanically, it should run a long time. I've put 44k miles on my 325i in the last two years with minimal expense, and it started with 97k.
