Weather Stripping Problem

I seem to be having a problem with the passenger side interior weather stripping. I searched the forum but was unable to find anything related. Please see the pictures and provide any information you could provide would be appreciated. Is there any special adhesive that is should use or do I need a professional to perform the procedure or can I just grab some super glue and have at it?

Very common problem especially with the coupes if that's what you drive. Happened to my Mum's, got it fixed under warranty at the dealer so not sure what the procedure would be. Saw another car (coupe) drive past me one day with the same thing.

Happened to my car, both sides. I was going to glue it myself, but
eventually brought it to the dealer who replaced the whole thing.

Hasn't dropped since.

I think they use 'weak' glue because of the side curtain airbags,
which drop from where this trim is attached.

I've had the same thing happen to me recently. Unfortunately my car has been out of warranty for over a year now.

I tried crazy glue. That lasted about a month. I took it to a body shop and they told me that if they glued it, it would fall down again in a month. well, der!

They said that the entire trim piece would have to be replaced - frame and all to the tune of about $200 plus install. If your car is still under warranty, have the dealer do this. I just had kid 6 months ago and money is a little tight. I had some epoxy resin lying around from a previous repair and I thought I'd give that a try. It's holding so far and pretty darn well from the looks of it. The biggest disadvantage of the epoxy is that it comes in 2 tubes and has to be mixed. It's messy and a little difficult to apply without getting it on your hands or the outer part of the trim. It also takes about 5-7 minutes to set so you have to find a way to hold the weather stripping in place while the resin sets. Hope that this helps.

I had this problem on my '01 coupe. Super glue didn't seem that good, however I used "No More Nails" (available in the UK) and held it in place with masking tape overnight for the glue to cure, and it seem to be holding. This was a couple of months ago now.

I wouldn't recommend epoxy. 3M makes a special rubber
glue, at about $6 a tube.

Yup. I had this happen on my 2004 330Ci (coupe) as well. And as others have reported, I have seen other coupes with the same problem.

I had my weatherstrip fixed twice (both sides) under warranty. Unfortunately, the problem resurfaced after warranty as well.

I ended up getting some Super Glue and using that. But what I did was get some of those small Craftsman "C clamps" and doing about an inch at a time and clamping it (pretty tightly!). Then I waited about 10 minutes, released the clamp, glued the next inch, clamped it again, etc. until the whole thing (in my case, about a foot) was done. That was almost 8 months ago and it is still holding (that's longer than 2 of the factory "repairs" lasted).

It worked for me anyhow. But I think if I had tried to just use the super glue without the strong clamps (and doing a small section at a time instead of trying to do the whole thing), I don't think I would have been successful.
