I have this odd rackling noise coming out of the engine as i start.
It stops after a while... but still...
Is this serious? Should I take it to some kind of a test or so...?
Help me out friends [:(]

Serious pal. Check it isn't your timing chains. Get that noise checked immediately.
Oh s**t - that never crossed my mind...
I'll the my ride to a check up right away.
Do you think that if timing chains are out of "balance" it could do that?
I mean the noise comes out only as i start the engine - never as i run the engine.

I know when my water pump was bad it made a horrible noise like I was dragging a metal linked chain across the ground. It would go away once it got warm though. And these cars ARE known for their water pumps going bad. As far as your timing chain, I highly doubt it, unless you have over 200k on your odometer, your chain should never go bad.

could you describe the sound alittle better?it only does it when the car is not moving,or under load?
The sound is like sewing machine (but naturally louder [:)] )
It lasts like 20 secs as i've started the engine.
I have never heard the sound in other case, only as I start the engine.

A friend of mine, who has had the same car but in 4 doors, told me that the water pump might be bad... he had his changed to a aluminium one and says it's a lot better now.

if your waterpump is bad, you'd be overheating in no time.but it doesn't hurt to change it to a metal impeller pump.in fact, you should do it asap, before the madness.bring it to a mech that has a good stethescope so he can pinpoint the sound exactly.or do it urself if you can obtain one or borrow one.

The "sad" part is, that the sound doesn't last any longer than 20 secs.
So it's hard to get it located. But thanks for the advice.
I'll try it with my bro' starting the engine as i listen.

I also have this weird feeling that i might have lost some hp... [???1]
Or is this just in my head... dunno... better check that too at the mech...

these engines are notorious for having the lifters make noise upon startup.if it sounds almost like a diesel truck, then goes away(not abrupty, but fades away),then this might be the case.

Yes! That's what it's like... should I be concerned or do something?

no.this is normal.I've been running synthetic oil for awhile, and just recently switched back to conventional oil because of not only this, but also a rattling noise at 2000-2500rpm under load.synthetic oil ALWAYS is thinner than conventional oil(when comparwed with the same weight).the next oil change, maybe try a thicker weight oil (just one weight up,like if you're running 5/30 now, try 10/30 or 10/40).

I'm running with the 5/30 now... I'll try the 10/30 as I'll change the oil.
Thanks!

One of my friends told me that the MotorUp might do the same. But I doubt!
Have you heard or have you any former experience on a mixture like this?
My opinion is, that the MotorUp just sticks to the walls of oil hoses/chamber and increases oil pressure.
So it doesn't really do any good for your engine... am I right?

i personally don't like to run any additives in the engine oil,but to each thier own.just stay away from anything "thick" as it might clog up oil gallery holes and the like.
