That's the great thing about this particular bmw community - MOST people are very open minded when it comes to cars. Obviously 99% of us do own BMW's and own them for a reason, but I made more than half of my total posts here before I even owned one! Well as epj3 said.... frolf had me sign up, and I've been learning about BMWs... I almost bought 2 of them, but due to the financial constraints of college I had to pass. I have a fair amount of general technical knowledge on cars and do most of my own work. Many problems (like on all cars) are not limited to BMWs only, and many problems can be diagnosed without specific knowledge of the workings of a manufacture. Replacing the part is another thing...
I plan to buy a BMW when I'm out of college. I'm preparing for it, and I would liek one close to the stats of my SHO... (15-15.5 1/4th mile... 0-60 in 7 or so seconds... good handling etc...) So I can have my cake and eat it too... I also like the community here. No one is really a jerk about anything, unlike my more specific SHOforum with a bunch of jerk admins...

welcome and great pick up. once you get a taste, it's hard to go back to other rides..
i'd stay away from bras in the winter, only because once the water gets under there and freeze, bake, freeze, whatever, it'll ruin your paint. your car looks much nicer w/out it, so why cover it up?
but i would use the bra during long distance trips at high speeds, and (here's somethign i picked up here) for your track days, if you take your car to the track that is. i thought about picking one up for long distance trips, but since i rarely go anywhere far i decided not to. also most places don't stock one for my front.. so i have to special order one, and i'm not sure how much i'll use it.

Congrats on the new addition to your family! thats what it is.
What do some of you mean about being converted and now will only want a BMW? You mean there is something else?
As for the bra, think of it as wet sandpaper, all the little grains being rubbed around when damp, that should take out a layer or two in no time. My suggestion would be only use it for out of town runs and remove it when you get to your destination. The paint on the edges will go first. But then again, repaint the nose for the bra or for stone chips because you didn't use it.

to Board. I bought a new water pump from Bavarian Auto Parts as i too, was made to believe it must be changed immediately. Well, I spent the bucks, got the water pump, removed the one on my 328i and found it already has a metal impeller. Now i have a spare in the event the current one fails.
Suggestion: if you have the time: remove-inspect- replace the one in the motor before ordering and paying for a new one.
