I am looking for a new car. Heres my situtation, I am 16 years old and I have a 96 bmw 328ic with 150,000. Its been costing me a lot of money to fix so I have 1000 debt. I am not sure wether to keep the car or sell it and get a 3 series sedan. Any suggestions? Dont forget my car is only worth 8500 and I got to pay sales tax.

It's called do some of the repairs yourself, and then depending on whether you love the car or not, sell it. I would suggest a well maintained e30 (late 80's or early 90's BMW) A used early model e46 will probably have the same problems you're experiencing now, or at least carry the same repair costs.

You dont really have the right to comment on my situtation if you are rich enough to buy an 04 bmw.
This is a messageboard for discussion, I HAVE THE RIGHT to comment on anyones situation who posts on here, so take your BMW envy elsewhere. Besides, if you put your glasses on and read what I posted you'll see that I offered you genuine advice since you were moaning about reliability and repair costs.

if you are 16 years old and you're poor just drive a corolla like the rest of the poor teenagers out there. wait till you're in your mid-20s or 30s when (and if) you get a real job and start rolling in the cash to get a bimmer. and u mentioned that you're already in debt. learn how to manage your money better. if you don't like the idea of driving econo-cars, i.e. civics or corollas then buy a bike - you have legs don't u? frankly i don't see why a 16 year old needs his/her own car at all, especially a relatively high-end car like a bimmer

Hey now, Im 17, have a BMW Q.3S bike and its not fast enough for me [:D]
A grand of debt isnt too bad, nothing that a month or two of hard work wont pay off. Im personally planning on geting a E34 5 series, most likely a 535, I need to financially prepare myself for the price of the car, insurance, and money for repairs.
Fwu, some people just dont want a crap quality car, which is why personally I decided on a bimmer, or if i get lucky, my mom's hand-me-down Discovery. Reason's why a teenager might need a car? Well for one, when I enter college Im not going to wake up at 5am in the morning so that I take a subway+ god knows how many buses to campus, just so I can make a 8am class. Second reason why is, I don't want to have to ask my parents to you their car. Having my own is the best option, not having to deal with complaints or restrictions..

point taken, but i guess the point i'm trying to make is that if you can't afford something that you don't actually need, u gotta make compromises

i'm really not sure how you can come to the conclusion that these guys are pricks. If it is only that you can't see you situation in a different light as they suggested then wwhy exactly are you asking a question. Is the point not to get different opinions?

Nobody's replies were mean, harsh or meant to be offensive in anyway from what i read.

You really shouldn't get angry/offended that easily man.

Also don't assume people are rich cause they own a nice car. It really comes down to priorities and thier current life situation. Pretty much anyone can buy a nice car.

haha besides that, you seem to be pretty well off to own a 8500 dollar car at age 16..... (i'm obviously judging though.)

Screw you. My parents make me buy everything. I HAVE A THING CALLED A JOB.
No thanks, again that's what your boyfriend's for. Everyone has a job, and aside from making you purchase your own fancies your parents need to give you a good [spank] [spank] to teach you to show respect on public discussion forums.

BTW, Why are you so angry? Is it that time of the month again where you experience the phenomenon of male PMS? [bath]

ITs not that. I show respect I just think Bmw 325i 7803 is a dick head and it really pisses me off when he says my mom paid for everything and it really pisses me off that he called me gay.

Hehehe, flame wars, I just love these.

Anyway, njoutlaw88, as you can see I have a car that is even less expensive then yours and to tell you the truth, I am not too far away from your age either. I don't know about you but although I do love my car, I would take something over it just as fast. For example I was impatient enough to get an automatic and not a manual and I think that if somebody offered me a nice e34 535i with a manual, I would take it any day of the week, maybe even an e30 325i. They are much simplier to work on and I love working on the car, do everything I can on mine. Don't get offended by what people here say, most of the time they mean something else or just confuse you with somebody else. Honestly though, maybe you should look for an older 5er or 3er if you want to stay with BMW.

If you don't mind, what were the things you had to repair lately? And what do you still have to repair? Maybe it won't be that much.

Good luck with anything you decide to do.

I don't know how diligently you read the above posts, but that was not a flame war. It was just an upset individual who doesn't understand the purpose of a discussion forum. For the record I mean't everything I said and it's mean't to be taken precisely the way it was written. I also agree with your suggestions on early model BMW's, that's even what I suggested. Everyone likes e30's...
