Hopefully post says it all. Why do wipers switch to intermittent when stopped and then go back to full on when moving? ('95 318I)

BMW decided you don't need clear windows at a stop? You'll forget to turn them off in a tunnel? My car is broken?
Any ideas?
Thanks

It's actually a feature to help preserve the life of the blades. The idea is that more rain will hit the windshield when the car is in motion and less when the car is at a stop. Therefore, if the wipers were to remain going at the same rate when the car is at a stop, there is a higher possibility that your wipers would be wiping a dry (or atleast a less wet) windshield. This causes the squeaky noise and eventually cuts down on the life of the blades.

Tablet has said it all here, but when ur stopped and the windshield just builds up rainwater it can be a pain in the ass at times. However if it means the wipers last longer so be it

i like it as it is pretty convenient. i don't like it at all when sitting at a res light to see the wipers jumping back and forth like crazy. when you drive, you barely hear them or listen to them, but at a full stop the noise they can create just makes me nuts!

If I can afford the car I really shouldn't have to worry about replacing the wiper blades!
Where do I go to lose this post?
Rhetorical question-no need to reply.
