my car has developed its third window problem... i'm pretty sure i know what's causing it but thought i would check here first. ever since i bought the car (2 months ago), its had an issue where the window lights on the power window buttons stay on...... forever.... (not 10 mins like everyone elses bmw).

then last week after getting the battery changed the driver's window stopped going auto-up, but otherwise works ok. .... today .... the passenger window stopped going down, its stuck up (heh, better than being stuck down i guess :) ).

i had this sort of issue before where half my door locks wouldn't work, there was nothing wrong with the actuators but it was all traced back to bad wiring form an alarm install. my guess is nothing's wrong with any window motors, its a faulty circuit or window relay, just seems like too much of a coincidence...

I'm pulling this info off the top of my head. I'm not at home to look in the manual but this proceedure is simple. If it doesn't work send me an email and I'll get the facts straight from my Bentleysl...................After a battery change or disconnect you need to realign/reset the auto function of the windows. To do this you raise all the windows with the allwindow switch and hold it in the up positon for 5 seconds. Should be good to go after that.

err.... the all-window switch.. is that the centre button between the other switches? that does nothing when pressed. :(

The button that is in between the window switches is the rear window lock out; it prevents the rear windows to be opened or closed from the switches in the back, or at least it should do that.

The Bentley manual says that in order to reset the windows, you need to get into the car, close the door, turn the ignition key to on; then completely open one front window, completely close it and hold down the button for closing the window for at least 5 seconds. That window should now be reset, repeat same precedure for other windows.

Hope that helps you in one way or another, good luck.

I've devloped a window problem too- when trying to close either of my two windows they sometimes stop midway up and retract a couple inches... it's almost like the windows sense something in the way and are retracting as a safety feature. Should I just reset them by holding the buttons on up for 5 seconds?
