RJC, I think bmw would be happy if you went with another car! You're costing the dealer money in the means of labor hours over stupid shit.

Steering wheels don't lock unless the key is out of the ignition and there are thousands of other reasons I could come up with. Why don't you just take the key out and put it on the console or something?

You then go to the rear seat to get your computer bag, briefcase, or jacket. For the rear lights and dash to light up and stay on all night is ridiculous...i don't wait for my interior lights to go out as a I walk away, only to find a dead battery in the morning. (That becomes no small problem when you can't start your damn $57k car.) This is a crazy lack of attention to detail.

They rushed this car out the door and tried to do too much too quickly in a body style change, IMHO.
Ok I agree with you on the not so beautiful body style(starts ducking evil stares from Tool Fan.... [paranoid] ) but I dont find the whole light thing "ridiculous"....a little irritating...yes.....ridiculous.....no....I was something that they didnt see coming with this first generation of the car....now....IF they let it still be problem with the second generation....or dont come up with some type of fix then there is a problem......on a quick side note.....I have left my interior lights on a few times on accident and even had an amp that wouldnt cut off and have never, ever, ever had a dead battery the next morning.....maybe change type of battery???

your going to leave BMW because you can not leave your keys in the ignition? Now that is a good reason to go and buy a different make of car. Most people leave car manufactors because the car has too many problems or has major flaws. yeah good idea. I can unerstand how it would get annoying, just take your keys out buddy.

RJC - I know it's an inconvenience for you, but Sturm was right about the system not able to "sleep". I think you will find that as the other manufacturers make strides and the cars become more complex you will see other manufacturers with the same "problem". IMO it just seems such a trivial problem and such a simple fix for the pleasure of driving such a wonderful vehicle.

Wait, where exactly are you? With your 04 530 with the keys in it.... Um, out of curiosity I mean.

LMAO!!![rofl]
I know right? In the states I would never do that.....even in a locked garage. Most garages are easier to break into than the house doors anyway(errr....at least thats what I heard [paranoid] )
