Hello,

At our local Auto parts store, recently, I 've seen Actron CP9135 (OBD II) scanner for $100. Before I go and buy it, I looked on the manufacturer's site. From what I read, as long as the car has 16-pin OBD II connector, then it should work with the car.

For my '97 328i, the only connector I've seen/used is the one on the right hand side engine compartment (round connector).

My question(s):
Is there a OBD II connector in the passenger compartment (near the drivers'
or passenger's side) that is compatable with Actron scanner?

Does any of you use Actron scanner to read the codes/reset the CIL ?

Your input is highly appreciated.

autozone uses the exact same scanner for their free "engine light check" thing...in your car there is a connector, actually in ANY obdII car i beleive, in the drivers side. its near your center console...

get the scan tool made for bmws. Those generic scan tools do not always have the correct information. I have a Peake tool for our cars and it works great. I had to use one of those generic OBD-II Matco scan tools on my dads 1997 DB7 and the code it brought up was not stored in the tool. So we are going to try and find someone that works on those Aston Martin's that is close. We live in Sav, GA. The closed dealer is in ATL. Does anyone know if there is one in FL?

actually a generic scan tool is handy. the only draw back is that they do not read manufacturer specific codes. peake makes good scanners, the only thing that really sucks is that you need to buy both of their scanners to really get the "whole package". getting them both, your total is over $250. oh yeah, if you have a 20 pin add $40. there are other scanners that cost less and work better.

Thank you all for your response/feedback.

Love this message board. Saved me tons of money already
(Control Arm Bushing replacement, Climate Control Unit Repair,
Brake Light Error diagnosis and installation of new brake light switch,
to name few things I've learned from this board).
