Not everyone has the option to take a bus - I sure don't, and if i did, I would still prefer to drive. The second part of your post was in some kind of english that I don't understand, but the point he made about buying his own car is that he worked to save money, so he could buy a car and NOT have to take a bus, walk, etc. In his case it was a necessity.
I didn't HAVE to buy a 16 year old BMW for $3700, but I did. I could've bought a newer american or Japanese car that probably would get better gas mileage, need less attention, and have cheaper repairs/insurnace. But, in reality, I did get 25+ mpg, got places while usually having fun, and sometimes - when I would be late for work - I could make up some time in my drive! I considered my BMW to be VERY practical. Show me a cheapo cavalier, civic, etc. that would be as solid and safe of a car as the BMW.
