Wow! congratulations!

As for us, I'm 21, my brother is 20 and my mother is 43. Our yearly insurance is a little over $8,000 a year. [driving2]

LOL, I knew sooner of later I had this coming.

Yes, I'm still young at heart and occasionally I can even walk without my walking stick. [hihi]

I'm 29 and leased a silver M3 and now going through the break-in period. Is it true if you hold down the traction button for 3 seconds that you can really get the M3 sliding around and put rubber down?

I had a modified SC300 and I could do really aggressive power drifts in turns, but now, the M3 grips the road ferocioiusly. ITs torture having to keep it under 4K RPM...

I was lucky because a serious M3 buyer ordered all the right specs and red interior, which I like now, and couldn't buy it, so I walked in to the dealer and they showed it to me. I wish the gear shifter was shorter, but overall serious ride, and very aggressive looking.

Okay I voted because I was all ready to lay down the cash on a '03 M3, but unfortunately I didn't have enough leg room. I had the seat all the way back and my knees were still, ever so gently, touching the dash.
I hopped in the 330Ci, decided I needed something a little more me, so I ended up buying what you see on the left of this post. -Anywho, I'll be 33 next month.

Hello from Slovenia.
I am 23 and I drive M3 E36 1995 dakar gelb. I paid for insurance about 1500. So it's kind a cheep compering to yours. But how many HP american M3 has? My has 286 HP and go from 0-60 in 5,7 seconds. I heard that american M3 is made from 328 engine and has 230 HP is that true? How is with E46 M3. How many HP? In SLO - 343 HP.

And also one info. In Slovenia you paid every year less. The insurance is not connected with tickets from police. Only if you are involved in accident, than you have to pay full insurance. Or if You have car less than a year-no bonus.

Yes sir, holding it down for 3 seconds (I thought it as 5 seconds) completely turns off DSC instead of only slightly turning it off. Silly BMW tricks the average consumer for their own safety.

I, on the other hand, defintely avoid doing so because my wallet says if I steal from it anymore for tires it will bite off my right testicle. From now on im keeping my wallet in my back pocket.

A 1995 BMW M3 has 240 horsepower at the crank, utilizing a American specific s50 motor. It's not just detuned, it suffers from a lot compared to the euro s50 that puts out 286 horsepower. In 1996 you guys got the european s52 motor putting out 321 horsepower while we recieved the american s52 motor, which just gained a little torque and no extra horsepower. This ridiculous difference lasted until 1999.

A new 05 BMW M3 s54 has 333 horsepower at the crank and has had so since it debuted in 2001 in the states. Your e46 M3 puts out 346 horsepower I believe. A little bit more than us.

Euro S54s in the E46 M3 are rated at 343 hp., but those are European horses, not American horses. (DIN v. SAE).

The formulas used are:

SAE = kW * 1.341
DIN = kW * 1.360

333 US SAE hp = 337.7 Euro DIN hp.

343 DIN hp = 338.2 SAE.

In other words, the US E46 M3 has a rating that is 10 less than the Euro version, but in reality only has 5 less horsepower (due to exhaust changes). The other 5 simply reflects the different measurements.

This is also why the 400 hp. E39 M5 ended up with only 394 in the US.

As for insurance, I can offer the following information.

Vehicles are classed according to numerical ratings (at least by my insurer). My TL was in the 30s. My NSX is a 61. The E46 M3 is a 54. The higher the #, the more it will cost to insure.

Your wallet is quite a pushy character.

Thanks a lot Tom. My previous 325i and my current 330i have been great cars but after test driving the //M3 a week ago I knew that I was getting myself into a totally different experience. with the SMG II and all its features launch control, S mode etc. seems like there'll be a lot for me to learn. I hope you all can help with some tips. [bmwdance] BTW I will try to post some pics early next week I'm getting it on Friday and I will be taking some pictures during the weekend.
